Gross Motor & School Readiness Screenings (Ages 3–5)

Gross Motor & School Readiness Screenings in Seaford, VIC

At Ocean Kids Health, our Gross Motor and School Readiness Screenings are designed to support children aged 3 to 5 years — whether they’re starting kinder, transitioning into school, or anywhere in between.

These 1-hour screenings are run by our Paediatric Exercise Physiologists and focus on identifying key areas of your child’s development such as:

  • Gross motor skills (e.g., balance, coordination, core strength)
  • Movement confidence and physical literacy
  • School readiness indicators (e.g., postural endurance, fine/gross motor coordination, ability to follow multi-step movement tasks)
  • Any early signs of delays, difficulties, or asymmetries that could impact learning and participation
Our team of Paediatric Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists at Ocean Kids Health are experts in early childhood development.

Our Gross Motor and School Readiness Screenings are ideal for children aged 3 to 5 years, including those who:

Are preparing to start school or transitioning through early learning stages
Have concerns or delays with movement, coordination, balance, or strength
Experience fatigue or difficulty engaging in physical play or daily activities
Would benefit from early identification of motor skill challenges to support school readiness
Are referred by educators, allied health professionals, or families seeking a detailed movement assessment
Have specific physical development goals or require support to improve participation
Are from families wanting a clear understanding of their child’s gross motor skills and readiness for school

During the 1-hour screening session, our experienced Paediatric Exercise Physiologists will assess your child across five key areas of development:

Physical: Gross motor skills such as balance, coordination, strength, and endurance
Social: Interaction with the therapist and responsiveness during activities
Emotional: Confidence, frustration tolerance, and motivation while completing tasks
Cognitive: Ability to follow instructions, problem solve, and engage in movement challenges
Language: Understanding and using language to communicate needs during activities

Following the assessment, our therapists will provide tailored suggestions, including practical resources and strategies to support your child’s continued growth and readiness for school. This may include home activities, referral recommendations, or advice on next steps to help your child thrive both physically and socially as they transition to school.
