Frequently Asked Questions
No, you can contact us directly to see how we can help your little one!
Our session durations vary, pending the complexity of your child’s condition and their individual needs.
Initial assessments – 60 minutes
Subsequent Therapy Reviews – 30 to 60 minutes
Your child’s first appointment is used to get to know you and your child, to assess your child’s current abilities, and develop an understanding of their strengths and difficulties. From this information, we can then work together to develop a plan to address your concerns and help your child achieve their goals.
Here is a general outline of what will happen in your childs initial assessment:
We will spend time getting to know you and your child and building rapport, whilst discussing your concerns and your childs medical and developmental history
Physiotherapy Assessments: We will assess your child’s movements and play skills, their posture and alignment, muscle strength and tone, joint movements, balance, coordination and sensory systems.
Exercise Physiology Assessments: We will assess your childs gross motor skills, muscle strength, balance, coordination and their overall physical activity and fitness levels.
We will collaborate with you to decide what goals are the most important to you and your child and develop a fun treatment plan that works for your family, to create a positive outcome for your child!
Unfortunately not. As much as we love siblings attending therapy sessions, often they can be a distraction for your child or other children attending our clinics.
If you are unable to organise care for your child’s siblings, please contact our admin team to work out a suitable arrangement.
Yes, as long as your private health plan includes Physiotherapy and/or Exercise Physiology as part of your extras cover and you have not reached your rebate limit for the year.
If your child has a disability, a chronic health condition, or complex care needs, then there may be funding options available to help pay for or subsidise your child’s therapy sessions:
Chronic Disease Management/ Enhanced Primary Care Plan
This plan is available for people who have a chronic health condition (one that has been, or is likely to be, present for six months or longer) or complex care needs.
Medicare rebates are available for up to five (5) eligible allied health sessions per calendar year (January 1st-December 31st). The current rebate per Physiotherapy or Exercise Physiology session is $52.95. A referral from your GP is necessary to set up these services. Further information is available from the Medicare website, or by contacting your GP.
Children with developmental delay and disability may be eligible for funding for therapy, as well as many other supports, under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Please contact our clinic if you would like an assessment and report from one of our therapists to support your child’s eligibility and funding under the NDIS. Please also contact us if you would like further guidance about how to access the NDIS and prepare for your eligibility and planning meetings.
Further information regarding the NDIS is available on the NDIS website.
Ocean Kids is not a registered NDIS Provider.
However, we are able to provide our services to children who have NDIS funding that are Self Managed or Plan Managed, but not NDIA (agency managed).

We absolutely do!
We understand that travelling into the clinic is not always possible for some of our clients.
We also recognise that some children respond better to therapy within their own familiar home environment.
We also love seeing children in home and community settings to help them achieve their goals with their own equipment e.g. bike riding!
There is a travel fee associated with home visits, and this will be discussed with you when booking your appointments.
We sure do!
Our Paediatric Physiotherapists and Paediatric Exercise Physiologists love supporting children within their childcare, kinder and school environments. Within these visits our therapist will provide education support and training for support workers and teachers along with 1:1 therapy with your child when required.
If you would like these visits, please discuss further with your childs treating therapist. Please note, there is a travel fee associated with each visit.
Our amazing admin team will be able to provide you with an update on our current waitlist times. We strive to provide appointments within a timely manner.
